K9 Officers will have the ability to run through multiple courses of live fire covering the tactical application of the pistol and rifle with and around their K9 partners. Shooters will be able to re-shoot the courses of fire to build confidence and for repetition, so long as open space on the firing line is available. 

GOALS & OBJECTIVES:

At the conclusion of this training session, all K-9 handlers will have accomplished the following:

  • Successfully completed several different courses of live fire with police service dog to provide real world experience.
  • Police service dog remained in a non-aggressive posture during the firing of firearms.
  • Qualify on ITOA course of fire during deployment of a police service dog.


COURSE PREREQUISITES:
 Be proficient and familiar with the fundamental safe operation of the duty pistol and/or rifle. Be prepared to work around K9 service dogs during live fire situations.

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Ammunition- 100 Rds. Pistol (minimum) - 100 Rds. Rifle optional
  • Duty holster & Pistol with spare magazines
  • Tactical rifle with sling and chamber blocking device (optional)
  • Ballistic vest
  • Eye & ear protection
  • K9 Ballistic Vest and cotton balls for K9 ear safety
  • Appropriate apparel for the weather
